At the end of a busy day there is nothing better than putting your feet up and relaxing, with this perfect handmade pouf.
Based at Bamber Sewing Machines, you’ll find like-minded classmates; expert tutors and all the fabrics, trims, patterns and sewing tools you could wish for (plus sewing machines and overlockers for those wishing to invest heavier)!
Stylish, sturdy and super comfy to boot, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to make this perfect addition to any lounge, kid’s bedroom or party – in your own choice of fabrics (measuring 80cm wide x 18cm deep)!
Start by gaining confidence on a sewing machine by learning the basics, including how threading a machine and filling a bobbin and sewing straight lines. Then move onto learning the most economical ways of cutting out your fabric sections and how to sew them together to construct your pouf.
Learn how to insert a zip for the closure and then make covered buttons if you choose to use this type of button for the centre of your pouf.
Top it all off by learning the finishing techniques to create your handmade gem. We’ll guarantee that anyone who sees it (or sits on it) will want to take it home!
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or for those looking to refresh their skills.
Ministry of Craft customers get 10% discount on the wide range of fabrics, haberdashery and sewing patterns at Bamber Sewing Machines and there are various discounts available on their sewing machines and overlockers. Discount codes and other offers from our other crafty friends will be emailed with your booking confirmation.
If the above date is not suitable or sold out, please have a look at our alternative dates or contact us with the course name and we will get in touch if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
What to bring for Beginner Sewing: Patchwork Pouf
If you order fabric from our online fabric shop, it will be waiting for you in our classroom on the day of your course or buy from Bamber Sewing Machines and get 10% off.
Each pouf is made up of 12 sections on each side (24 sections in total).
If using two different fabrics i.e. 6 sections in each fabric in each side, you will need 1 metre of each fabric (2 metres in total).
If using three different fabrics i.e. 4 sections in each fabric in each side, you will need 50cm of each fabric (1.5 metres in total).
If using four different fabrics i.e. 3 sections in each fabric in each side, you will need 50cm of each fabric (2 metres in total).
Most fabric designs are small and random, but please note you will need extra fabric if you choose a design that is large and has a direction. A design with a large rose, for example, would look best if the rose was positioned centrally and in the same direction in each section and this uses more fabric.
Please avoid bulky, stretchy or slippery fabrics; light to medium weight woven cotton is ideal.
Matching sewing thread.
You will need 2 large buttons, these can either be covered buttons or regular buttons.
1 x 26cm (approx.) closed end zip (not a concealed/invisible zip).
2 kilos of fill to stuff your pouf (Fred Aldous and Abakhan both supply).
A large bag to take your pouf home in.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (CLX301) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and there will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or pop out to a local cafe.
