Bamber Sewing Machines is a 'bricks and mortar' business with a shop in Eccles, Manchester.
Roy Bamber, was born in 1931. He was a boy during the second world war and Salford, where he lived, was a regular target for the Luftwaffe. There were many factories around the Salford and Manchester area as well as the docks in Salford.
Just after the war in 1946 Salford was littered with bombsites and one day Dad spotted a sewing machine sat on top of one of these bombsites. He scrambled up and dragged the machine down, took it home and slowly learned how to refurbish it. Finally, he sold it.
After his national service Dad got back into the sewing machine business and slowly built it up, shop by shop. Alan joined 37 years ago and my brother, Steve, not long after that.
We are Main Agents for Bernina, Brother and Janome and have over 50 sewing machines on display. We also keep large stocks of spares and haberdashery.
Roy Bamber 1931 - 2016. Cheers Dad.
