Bernina, Bernina Sewing Machines

Did you know... that in reality the Bernina is in effect, the lowest priced machine on the market. I say this because when Bernina first arrived in this country in the mid to late fifties, I sold the model 600 at £65 and the top model 530 was £98.00. Now, over the past 40 odd years, I have often given customers who bought their Bernina from me more in part exchange that they originally paid for the machine. This never applies to any other make of sewing machine, and I suspect, never will. With most machines today, the value drops almost as much as when you drive a new car off the dealers forecourt. Bernina have always claimed that 'Nothing sews like a Bernina' which is true. They could add that nothing keeps its value as well as a Bernina. There is no such thing as a 'Cheap' Bernina. But taken over a period of time, they certainly are the most economical machine to own. Roy Bamber.
